Resident Info

Academic Chief Resident

Hello and welcome to the Northeast Iowa Family Medicine! Located in the Cedar Valley, we are an unopposed residency.  There is no way to put into words everything we have to offer here, but we'll try to give you enough of an idea so you can begin to picture who we are and what we do.

We are a fun and hard working group of residents.  Many of us enjoy hiking, biking, running, socializing, hunting and a multitude of other activities during our free time.  Whether in our own cafeteria or experiencing finer dining, the Cedar Valley has its own diverse cuisine.

From faculty, residents and our amazing nurses, everyone is willing to help out and care for each other, while giving excellent medical care to our patients.  It is obvious after only a short time here, that we are all colleagues and friends.  This creates a wonderful atmosphere in which anyone can learn, and more importantly, enjoy learning.

Along with an excellent education, we like to have fun here!  It all begins with a four-week orientation, designed to acquaint you with the program as well with the community.  The residents plan a number of social activities, including potluck dinners, retreats, bowling, theme nights and pick up sports.  With the Cedar River running through Cedar Falls and Waterloo and the George Wyth Lake on the north side of town, a number of water activities are available as well.  An extensive trail system for runners and bikers takes you through beautiful state parks and into rich corn fields.  Des Moines and Iowa City are just a short car trip away for additional shopping and entertainment enjoyments.

The flexibility of our rotations gives residents the chance to focus on areas of special interests for their present and future practice.   Our large group of patients, with age groups ranging from newborns to geriatric, provide an excellent exposure to all Family Medicine related medical problems.  Our experienced and diverse faculty provide residents multiple models of practice to develop our own unique styles.  A unique team approach incorporating physicians, residents, nurses, counselors, social work and a pharmacist in cooperation with the PharmD resident makes our residency a collaborative learning environment.

We are an accredited residency program on a 5 year renewal pattern with no citations!  The Northeast Iowa Family Medicine Program provides a solid foundation as a launch pad to your future career.
